About Halmstad
"Sommartider hej hej" is a song that most people in Sweden have likely sung along to. Halmstad is associated with the band Gyllene Tider and summer. Halmstad is a popular and beloved summer town, but it thrives year-round.
At the mouth of the Nissan River lies the city center, with its Danish influence. Here, you'll find a wide range of shops to visit, or you can enjoy a café latte at one of the trendy cafés or at Broktorpsgården, a half-timbered house from the 18th century with a lush and rural inner courtyard. Just nearby is the large square, Stora Torg, with a vibrant market and the impressive fountain Europa and the Bull by Carl Milles.
Starting from the square, you can embark on a small city walk to the castle, then continue through Picasso Park by the Nissan River, and soon you'll reach the City Library. Even if you don’t want to borrow books, it’s worth stopping to admire the beautiful and modern architecture.
Norre Port is an old city gate, where one side marks the beginning of Storgatan (Main Street) and the other side leads to Norre Park. In the tower, you'll find a small gallery. In the park, you can relax before joining the large crowd heading towards Örjans Vall, if it's a football night, that is.
Art lovers can visit the Mjellby Art Museum, while fishermen can take a break to try their luck at salmon fishing or head to the quarry to catch one of the many summer concerts.
During the summer, the city is bubbling with life as tourists flock here. The outdoor seating areas fill the streets, and there's a line at the popular restaurants. But here, you'll also find many different events. Halmstad can be called the Mecca of Golf, with 11 courses, including the one in Tylösand, which is at the top.
Tylösand is primarily known for one thing – the beach, and rightfully so. On the 7 km sandy beach, people gather in the sun and swim in the water, with a view of Tylön. Further out at sea, you'll have more space to yourself – though you'll need a windsurfing board, of course. The beach extends to Ringenäs and Frösakull, where it's a bit less crowded among the sunbathers. If you continue driving along the coastal road, you’ll be treated to beautiful landscapes and several other beaches, such as in Haverdal. Here, you can share a 4 km stretch of sandy beach and take one of the many walking trails leading to the nature reserve, offering magnificent views.
The surrounding area of Halmstad is dominated by forests, fields, and beautiful landscapes, with several inland lakes and small communities nestled in greenery.
