About the holiday home
About OrsaFind your own private favourite place in Dalarna.
Here you will find a vast choice of possibilities, and it is difficult to decide where to go. Nature and wilderness with all kind of adventures are within reach, and at the same time civilization is never far away, if “the picture postcards” of nature should be too overwhelming!
The Dala Horse is a classic and very popular souvenir. It comes from Mora, and of course the world’s biggest Dala Horse is to find in the Dalarna area. It is13 metres tall and can be seen in Alvesta. But you must go to Mora if you want the see the production of the horses.
In the old part of the town (Gamla Byn) you will find the biggest coin in the world – weight: 19, 7 kg! In the coin museum you will learn about the story of the coins, and in Gamla Byn you will find some of the most well preserved buildings from the 17th century.
Would you like to follow in the footsteps of approx. 1 million people (until now), you can visit the biggest copper mine of Sweden in Falun. The lift will take you 55 metres under the surface of the earth where a guide and an exciting experience are waiting for you.
Take your family to Leksans Sommerland where numerous funny experiences are waiting for you – try the merry-go-rounds and the roller-coasters, and remember to visit the sweet-shop too. Relax while the kids are having fun in the chutes of the pool area. You must also try rafting or the bungee trampoline. This is a place where the whole family can have great fun.
You will never really grow up – at least this is what many people say. If this is true, you will have the possibility to become a child again in Sällnäs Jurassic Park – here you can warm up in an ice co-cart and continue in bigger “machines” and huge Caterpillar engraving machines.
If you prefer indoor sport activities or shopping all day long, you must visit the Kupolen with its fine sports facilities and 80 shops. Here you can also have a cup of coffee and rest your feet if your shopping bags are heavy, or you might sit down and have a good dinner.
In the area of Dalarna there are endless possibilities to go for long walks in the splendid nature – like in almost all other parts of Northern Sweden. Nature invites you to all kinds of adventures - in the winter time you can go skiing, for instance in Gesunda, and in spring you can go on a bike ride around the beautiful Siljan Lake, and if you feel like it, jump into the lake for a swim.
In this area there are also several golf courses – why not challenge yourself on Sollerön, the most difficult golf course in Sweden, or go for a long distance swim in Vansbro: 2 km of crawl with the current and 1 km against it.
Before saying goodbye to this fantastic area, you and your family might make a short visit to Gesunda and Tomteland (land of gnomes). This is the home of Santa and his gnomes.
