About the holiday home
About Dalarna VästraMountains and rivers, sport, outdoor life, nature and open spaces – Faluröd and Falukorv – all this and much more come into your mind when you hear the word, Dalarna.
The northern part of Dalarna is mainly a mountain landscape, and the highest top is Storvätteshågna. Gustav Vasa took refuge here from King Christian II in the 16th century, and as a minimum each and every Swede knows that this is where the Vasalop (Vasa Race) takes place starting from Sälen. If you come here in the summer time, you can walk along the Vasa Race track (length: 90 km). If you are not interested in participating in one of the world’s longest ski races, Sälen is worth visiting anyway as it has got the finest skiing facilities you could ask for. So no matter at which level you are, hop into the ski boots, grab your ski sticks and run into the sparkling snow landscape. If you have children, you must go to Handfjället and Lindvallen to visit the home of the troll and the snow men in surprising surroundings – your kids will love it. Here you will also find ski schools and a hilly area ideal for beginner ski practice where you can also have a lot of fun. When it gets dark, it is time for after-skiing and nice food. During the summer you can go downhill on bike – try Sälen Bike park or go for a mountain walk through Tollskogen.
A visit to Orsa Grönklitt, the largest bear park in North Europe, will be an adventure that your children will remember all their life. There are fresh fish in the torrents and lakes, and the fishing licence can be bought in the tourist offices. If you want to go for a swim, you can choose between the long sandy beaches or the small, deep forest lakes. You might also visit work shops that make wooden horses, Mora watches according to the old traditions, but there are also other handicraft work shops to visit – or do you prefer to wash gold and silver in a river?
Going further northwards you come to Idre Fjäll with the steepest ski slope in the North for the most skilled and courageous skiers. Idre Fjäll is an ideal place for nice stays both in the mountains and the valley, but Idra does not only mean ski or snow board – you and nature are one when you swing your golf club while enjoying the lovely view over the mountains from the fairways. Enjoy playing golf accompanied by the gurgling brooks.
In stead of just admiring the mountains, you can choose to go for a mountain walk, to go rafting or may be to go fishing in the beautiful nature.
Wäsaberget offers some rather special snow activities such as tubing and snow bikes, and if you want even more nature, there are several national parks to visit. If you like to go fast, you can follow the many ski tracks or snow scooter tracks. In Öje you can enjoy some fabulous views from Öjsberget and Gnupen, and if you enter some of the more isolated areas, you might be lucky to see the albino moose.
In Malung they have the annual Swedish dance band festival and the famous Skinnarspelen. (theatre play)
